All the Phillies need to do to take this to the next level is figure out a way to run the Philly Special without starting a bench-clearing brawl. We’re guessing since no one tackled him before he reached home the Phillies have a case for putting up another six on the scoreboard. In fact, it’s almost shocking this didn’t break some sort of unwritten rule in baseball. And somehow those at-bats weren’t the most fun thing Hoskins did at the ballpark during a 6-2 victory over Pittsburgh.
It’s become such a hit celebration now that even other teams are starting to use it. Played the role of batter and hit one out of the park following his touchdown. Credit where it’s due to the team for setting this one up right. There’s a catcher, an umpire — and two random people near the plate, which isn’t baseball but we don’t care because it’s awesome. It’s not like touchdowns and home runs aren’t already perfect complements for each other.
And despite greasing up the poles across the city, some fans were still able to climb them. It was ironic that the Seahawks decided to pull off the celebration against the same team that the Eagles debuted it against. It’s doubtful that the Seahawks meant anything by it, but it would sure be great if the Eagles get to use it against them during Week 13. There is nothing better than a little end zone celebration rivalry.

They’ve responded by giving us some of the best celebrations in the NFL. We wouldn’t be upset if this ushered in a new era of home run celebrations, either. Not that bat flips are a tired act, but there’s so much more room for creativity and it’s time we embrace it. The city’s Super Bowl Champion Eagles made a habit out of celebrating touchdowns by pretending to hit home runs in the end zone last season and it was glorious.
